What
is a “Work
Share”?
A “work share” is an opportunity for a member to work
on the farm in exchange for a 50% reduction in the CSA fees. The
workshares will be asked to work 2 1/2 hours a week and pay $13.
This season we will be offering two types of work share possibilities;
a Harvest Share and a Market Share. These work shares are invaluable
for the prosperity of a small-scale farm. If this sounds enticing,
then keep reading.
1. The Harvest Share
Harvest Shares come to the farm once a week for 2 1/2 hours throughout
the season to help out with one of the harvests. Primarily this
means harvesting in the field, but at times we will need a group
to tackle a project indoors. And don’t worry, you do not need
to know how to harvest or have a set of tools that would make Bob
Villa jealous to select this share. All that we ask are a willingness
to work and learn, and to show up when you say you will be there.
This is hard work, but is also very rewarding.
2. The Market Share
Market Shares, too, will come to the farm once a week for 2 1/2
hours throughout the season to assist inside with the preparation
for members to get their boxes. This usually means washing and packing
the produce into boxes. Market workshares also help with seeding
and other greenhouse tasks. Again, no experience is necessary, but
a strong work ethic and a discerning eye are helpful.
3. Harvest Days
Our Workshare Membership option will run from April 4th through
the end of October in 2005. Please contact me in the Spring if you
are interested.
Questions and Answers
Question My wife’s
third cousin is getting married in August and I will have to miss
a week. Is that ok?
Answer Sure! We encourage
people to enjoy their summer, but we just need to know when a
member will be there and when they will not. Dependability is
needed in all facets of life, the farm is no exception.
Question Can my
high school kids work for our family’s share?
Answer Absolutely! We at Los Poblanos
Organics feel that child labor laws are overrated and welcome
participation from any and all of the family.
Question I am a
parent with a young child. Can I bring them with me while
I work?
Answer No. After much extensive research,
we have realized that children (although they have small hands for
weeding) cannot keep up with the stoop labor. So we have been forced
to not allow any more small children to participate in the workshare
option. Sorry folks.
